Friday

It was another beautiful Scottish day and another day of exploring on two feet. We started our day by sleeping in, but then we walked over to Morningside to visit a book store.

By now we were getting pretty good at the local transit and caught a bus to Princess Street, where we went to the larger Waterson’s Book store and picked up some novels to read later.

I don’t think I’d ever get tired of this view

Laden with books, we returned to our room to unload but then took advantage of the weather and having the Union Canal at our back door and took another walk along its banks. Maybe some day Dan and I will get some bicycles and cycle our way across the country.

This was just a short “out and back” walk, as we had other plans to go back to the Botanical Garden. It was so nice to not have to feel like we were rushed to see things, and could do things more than once. It was also nice that we didn’t have to stress when we caught the wrong bus there – but we made it work and were soon again wandering through the lush grounds.

Plants are amazing in their variety

We came upon a group of painters, literally taking in the scenery

Our day had been relaxing and chill – just the right way to spend it. Dan had made reservations at a small but well-reviewed restaurant, so we wandered over to The Meadows in anticipation of this. The restaurant was tiny, but the food was good and it was interesting to have a view across “Bruntsfield Links”, a small golfing area at the west end of the park.

More plants!
