Wednesday
We wanted to see the Highlands, but felt limited to day trips. However, when looking at a map of the area around Edinburgh, I noticed the Pentland Hills Regional Park. It would be easy to reach by public transit and still give us the sense of Scottish nature.
We took the bus to Balerno and then hunted around for signs that would take us into the park itself. It was a beautiful, cloudy day for our little adventure and I was looking forward to it.
On the trail
Wildflowers!
A trail unlike any other I’ve walked on
And the trail was covered in these little guys – hundreds (thousands?) of them!
It is amazing that this is so close to the city
We crossed through Castlelaw Hill, a military training ground.
We eventually found a bus that took us back into the city and I was glad not to be driving: so much traffic! We got back to our room for a quick break and then went to the Fountainbridge Fox for dinner. We had walked by it a number of times in our daily forays, so it was good to finally go inside. The food was good and definitely worth a visit.
