Sunday
Today was another Big Plan day: we were going to take a train and visit the historic town of Stirling.
View from the train

Stirling train station

Once we were in Stirling we followed the streets up a hill, towards Stirling Castle. I knew very little about this town, but I was impressed with the architecture and beauty.

The view from the castle foreyard

Googleview of the Stirling knot – I could see the raised portions from the cemetery

The famous Stirling Bridge

Oh – what’s that in the distance? It was imposing and looked important. We should go there!
The Wallace Monument

We decided that since we’re in the area, we should go check it out. But first: a casual stroll through the neighborhood at the bottom of the hill, and then some nice artwork along the way.

Behold! We made it to the Monument!

We spied an Abby in the distance – let’s go check it out

After a nice walk back down the hill and following the roads through the ripe grain fields, we reached the Cambuskenneth Abbey.

From here we walked back to the train station, exploring some nice side streets along the way. It is always interesting to see how “the locals” live, and not just see the historic city center.

Our Big Train adventure was over for the day. We returned to Edinburgh and spent a quiet evening in the city.
