A Late-Season Attempt to See the Fall Colors
Kathy and I were shooting for a nice Wednesday or Thursday to skip out of town in the bug and catch the fall colors in Leavenworth. Some of you may remember my trip up there last year on my motorcycle. This time I’d be in the car, and I’m rather glad: it rained for almost the entire trip. A few side roads were enjoyed before cresting Stevens Pass where we plunged into temporary sunshine and warmth. It was worth taking a day off of work for something like this!
Starting out in the rain. This is Reiter Rd to Index. We already had out first stop of the day, at the Bakery in Sultan. Highly recommended!
Needless to say, they get a lot of snow in Skykomish
More wet roads. This one is the Old Cascade Highway that parallels Hwy 2 heading towards Stevens Pass.
Taking pictures of the tourists taking pictures in Leavenworth
The Wenatchee River in Leavenworth
Same river. The sun was starting to sink towards the west after our leisurely lunch.
Wildfire remains along Icicle Creek Canyon
Climbing up the side of the mountain
Looking back down the forest service road
That’s Kathy hiding behind the tree – the bug wasn’t as shy
Coming back down, after pushing my luck seeing how far up the mountain I could get in my 36+ year old car. It did pretty good on these roads!
The yellow larch is quite stunning
Just a little bit of mud and no traffic
Super Bug! Next up: the Baja 1000!
Our view disappears with the clouds that have blown in
A hillside full of color. Even if its just one color
We say goodbye to the Icicle River
