May 20th – Monday
Torremolinos
The sunrise was early at this time of year, but at this latitude it wasn’t as early as it would have been at home. So getting out to the beach at 7 am to see it from the ground wasn’t a problem at all!
I wasn’t the only one out here
I don’t have four legs – Dan was with me
At the cat colony – and the “natural” litter box
Basking in the morning light
Wow – they smooth out the beach every morning!
Another sand castle build – there was a little box so you could donate to the artist if you felt so inclined
Our hotel from across the road
Dan and I returned to the hotel and picked up Ron and Sue. We were going to re-visit the main part of the old town of Torremolinos again, now that we knew where it was and how to get there! The day was just a lot of walking around, poking our heads into shops and generally enjoying the casual vibe.
Coming at it from the boardwalk this time – up! up! up!
Underground litter bins
Like a giant toy on the beach – or really small people
We did a lot of walking. After exploring more of Torremolinos, we then took a break at the hotel before heading out later for dinner. Walk, walk, walk! Talk, talk, talk! Ron had found a well-reviewed restaurant on the other side of Benalmádena and off we went. We were really getting to know this stretch of the Costa del Sol!
Fantastic stone murals on the boardwalk on the other side of Benalmádena
Ron led us to the South Beach Restobar, where we had a pleasant view from an upper level, out across the boardwalk to to the water. The food and service were good, and it was surprisingly cool as the wind blew over the railing.
Tomorrow was going to be a Big Day, so we didn’t stay too long. Plus, the wind was really picking up, giving a sandblast-like effect as we walked back down the beach around the headland that Benalmádena sat behind.
Painting an iconic boat of the region
A parting shot of the Willow, across the decks of more sea-worthy boats
Small church back in Torremolinos
I love the stained glass details
