Friday
It was our last day, and it would be a short one. I had a wonderful time, but I admit that I was looking forward to a hot shower and a good night’s sleep. But that would come soon enough – now it was time to pack up and get back to the car.
Looking back at our campsite
I saw many large dragonflies on this trip
An old rail (now road) bridge that leads only to Camp Arowhon
It didn’t take long for us to reach the portage point. I had told Dan that I wanted to carry the canoe this time. I wasn’t sure if I could, but I wouldn’t know unless I tried! We unpacked our gear and hauled it to the other end of the trail and then went back for the boat. Dan gave me some pointers on how to get it up and onto my shoulders. The canoe had a little “yoke” designed into it that fit over one’s shoulders. It wasn’t the most comfortable thing, but it was do-able.
We were back at the north end of Canoe Lake. It had a completely different feel today than last Monday: the sun was out, the wind was calm, and the visibility was much better.
Approaching the Portage Store
Because we were returning on a Friday morning, the launching beach was packed with other boats. Many people were just starting out on their day or weekend trips. I was glad that we went during the week, even if Jacob and Henry where there.
Someone is heading out with TimBits – how Canadian!
We brought our canoe back to the docks and turned in our life jackets and paddles. We were good to go. I put on some fresh clothes in the parking lot, knowing that it was akin to lipstick on a pig until I could actually get a shower. I was covered in sweat, sunscreen, bug spray and bug guts – ick.
It was an easy drive back to civilization and we had fun talking about what kind of trip we could take “next time”.
