A Walk in the Rain
The first real rain of winter had come so what better way to celebrate then to go out in and get wet in it? Dan and I asked a friend of ours, Chris, if he had any plans that day and soon a hike was decided upon. It would be a short hike and none of us had been on these trails before. The hour we were out was just long enough for me, as my boots were giving me a slight blister by the time we got back to the car. Next time I'll try to be better prepared!

The wind blew and the rain fell and the misty clouds rolled through the trees. It was a slow and twisty ride up to Skyline Drive, the road that I enjoy so much on my motorcycle in better weather. But today I was warm in the car with Chris and Dan and getting ready for an adventure. I hadn't hiked in a long time and even then I just sort of stumbled around on forest trails until I got bored or out of breath. Or bored with being out of breath. Dan's an avid backpacker and Chris runs marathons; I was doomed.
"Crickey! Look at the rain!"
The view from the highway
We only saw one other person on the trail with us, which wasn't too surprising considering the conditions. We rounded a bend and the wind came at us like a wind tunnel. The rain, when it wasn't dripping gently on us from the soggy boughs above us, was being driven through our clothes from all sides. Chris took us on a detour to see a fine example of a tafoni, which was rather hard to see in the mist, but still pretty cool. It was a lot like the rocks we were climbing around on the other day at Castlerock.
Chris and Dan decide if it's really "closed"

Oh noes! Evil Chris!
We took a couple of wrong turns, and the various closed trails threw off our intended route but we finally made it back to the car. I was dry where I was supposed to be dry, but as I expected, my pants had soaked through fairly early in the game. The three of us returned to town, picked up Chris' wife Liz and then all went off to have some hot and delicious Thai food.
